We're experiencing the same backup issues with my husband's Q10 which I've also been playing around with as a test for whether the problem was my particular phone or something else.

For the Windows 10 computer, with great difficulty, I was able to get backups of photos and audio files on 2 different occasions (Oct '17 and Feb '18), but never a full backup and nothing recently.

The old BB software and BB os prior to 10 were never issues on any computer we had or any of the various older BB's we've had. The computer is less than a year old-replacement for previous computer still running Vista which did not support the new Link&Blend software. The Link has never worked properly for me on our current computer which runs Windows 10. Thank you so much for all of this information, Joeldf! BlackBerry World seems to be working again. Load up Link, and hook your phone up to that.

If all else fails, you might have to find an old PC or laptop that still has Windows 7 or 8 on it. So that was always one of the things to check out. The conflict would keep Link from connect to the phone. I don't recall the exact details (I don't use iTunes, so that was never my problem), but there was a file within the iTunes file structure that you had to rename to something else, and it would cause Link to work again. Over a year ago, or so, one of the updates to iTunes conflicted with Link.

But, even those were made to run on the built-in Jelly Bean 4.3 android runtime. I don't know how savvy you were with loading up android apps on the Passport, as that can be done. It you're looking to get an android phone or iPhone, none of the apps for BB10 will work on either of those phones, so you would need to get all new apps anyway. You could get lucky if you buy from someone who knows about all that, and clears it all out beforehand for you. You could get a used one, but then you have the whole BBID thing to deal with as most people don't know to disable Protect and remove the phone from the BBID online first before selling it, leaving basically bricks for future buyers who can't get past the BBID login. If you have files on the internal memory, you would first have to copy them from internal to the SD card within the Passport's own File Manger, then hook it up to the PC to copy from the SD card to the PC.Īpps, would be a problem, as only Link can backup your apps. But, you need an SD card installed to do it (if you have one already, great). That may be your only option to copy files off the device. The problem is that internal storage is not seen when the phone is set this way. There I can copy and paste files however I want. However, I can set the SD card as "Mass Storage" on the Z10, and my PC will see it as a USB Removable Drive in the Windows File Manager. I no longer get the "Y:\" and "Z:\" network drives. But, it cannot mount the internal and installed SD card for access though the Windows File Manager anymore. Now, I can still run a backup and even restore, as Link will see my Z10.

Then, every major Win 10 update (Anniversary, Creators, Fall, whatever they called them) that was released and updated on the PC broke Link again.įor me, just uninstalling and reinstalling made Link work again until one of the updates around the end of last year - that one broke Link for me to the point where an uninstall and reinstall didn't fix it anymore. The usual fix was to uninstall and reinstall Link (and Blend for those that used it). Lots of people had problems connecting their BB10 phones through Link on Win 10, especially after the mass update that was forced on everyone. But BlackBerry never made any of their PC software for BB10 phones to run on Windows 10. Seems strange, I know, as Windows 10 was in development for a few years - all while Link was in development. And even though Windows 10 was officially released the following month, Link was never officially certified run on Win 10. The newest version of Link is from June of 2015 - just over 3 years old - and will never be updated beyond that (BlackBerry basically ended development right after that).
